INTRODUCTION :
Sri Somanadheeswarar Temple is situated in Somangalam Village and here Mata Parvati is worshipped as Sri Kamakshi Amman.
This temple is a Navagraha temple and this temple is worshipped by Lord Chandra Bhagavan. According to Purana, once, Lord Chandra Bhagavan, who is also known as Soma, was cursed by his father-in-law Lord Daksha Bhagavan, the mind born son of Lord Brahma. Due to that, Lord Chandra had lost his divine beauty and also lost his knowledge. In order to get rid from his curse, he came to this sacred place, Somangalam, and created a pond, known as Soma Theertham and sincerely worshiped Lord Shiva.
Lord Shiva appeared in front of him, and blessed him, and restored his beauty and knowledge. Since Lord Soma had worshipped Lord Shiva at this sacred place, Lord Shiva here is called as Somanadheeswarar, and the place is called as Somangalam.
Those who suffer from Chandra Dhosham are advised to visit this famous temple, in order to get remedy for their problems. In this temple, Lord Chandra has a separate shrine.
This temple was constructed by a Chola king during the 11th century AD. He built this temple for Lord Shiva, in order to pay his great respects to him, and also for protecting him from his enemies.
In this temple, the devotees used to tell their problems in the ears of Lord Nandhi, by believing that he would convey their messages to Lord Shiva, and would remove their problems.
There is a separate shrine for Sri Kamakshi Amman, and
deities of Lord Natarajar, Muruga, Vinayagar, Sri Dhakshinamurthy, Mahavishnu, Sapthamathas, Sri Brahma, Sri Durga and Sri Sandigeswarar can be seen in this temple.
