SRI RAMA TEMPLE NEAR PARUTHIKUDI, THANJAVUR DISTRICT

Introduction

Lord Rama is an important god in Hinduism. It is a common practice among Hindus, to write Lord Rama’s mantra (SRI RAMAJAYAM and JAI SREE RAM) in a note book, and also by chanting it several times. Our great saints like Kanchi Paramacharya, Bodhendral and Sadashiva Brahmendral, though were strict followers of Shaivism, yet they insisted the people to frequently chant the Rama Mantra, due to its sanctity.

There is a wonderful Sri Rama temple situated near Paruthikudi Village, Thanjavur District amidst full of natural greenery and marvellous scenery. Though the size of the temple appears to be small, but the Rama deity present inside the temple contains supreme powers. This temple would be kept open only during evenings, and during mornings, we could be able to have the darshan of Lord Rama only behind the closed doors of the temple. At the top of the temple tower, we could see the images of several Garudas who would be in the form of bowing posture. This temple is situated just two kilometres far away from my home.

Rama Navami and Hanuman Jayanti festivals are being nicely celebrated at this temple, and at the request of the devotees, during festival times, the temple priest would also arrange for special pujas and flower decoration and holy bath for Lord Rama deity would also takes place. Daily I used to visit this excellent temple during mornings and would have the darshan of Lord Rama behind the closed doors of the temple. If we view the deity of Lord Rama for a few minutes, we could get a great sense of satisfaction and we would be completely relieved from our mental stress and tensions.

Sri Thyagaraja in one of his songs, mentions Lord Rama as the Universal god, and as the most beautiful god. He further adds, “Hey my lovely Rama, I want to witness your divine beauty again and again, and after observing your lovely beauty, I am not interested to eat food and also I am not interested to sleep, and I am getting great pleasure in chanting your lovely names, which provides a grand feast to my mouth and to my ears!”
